What to Expect

If you have never had a massage before, this is a lovely place to start. And if you have, this is the one you book when you just need to stop for an hour.

Swedish massage uses long, flowing strokes rather than deep pressure. It is designed to calm your nervous system, improve circulation, and help your body remember what "relaxed" actually feels like. I work through your back, shoulders, legs, arms, and neck over the full 60 minutes. The pressure is lighter than deep tissue but still meaningful. You will feel the tension being coaxed out gradually rather than forced.

Most people tell me they drift off about 15 minutes in, and that is completely fine. I take it as a compliment. It is common to sleep particularly well that night too.

Who This Treatment Is For

This is not a luxury. If you are running on empty, constantly tense, or you cannot remember the last time you properly switched off, an hour on my table might be exactly what you need. It is a natural fit for anyone whose stress has been building quietly, for people who carry their tension as a general achiness rather than in one specific spot, and for anyone who simply needs an hour where nothing is expected of them. Parents running on empty, carers who spend all their energy on others, and professionals approaching burnout all tend to get a lot from this treatment.

The Benefits of Regular Swedish Massage

The rhythmic, flowing strokes do something your body really needs: they signal your nervous system to switch out of its stressed, alert state and into recovery mode. That means lower cortisol, a slower heart rate, and better blood circulation. It is not a vague feel-good claim; it is what your body does when it is finally given the chance to rest properly.

For people who book regularly, the cumulative effect is real. Tension that used to take days to build now takes weeks. Sleep quality improves. The low-grade headaches that come with chronic stress become less frequent. A few of my regular clients have told me their monthly Swedish massage is the single most effective thing they do for their mental health. That means a lot to hear.

Before Your Session

No special preparation needed. Wear whatever you are comfortable in. You will be able to change privately in the treatment room.

A few helpful notes: Try to avoid caffeine for an hour or two beforehand, as it can make it harder for your body to settle. A light meal is fine, but a full stomach can be uncomfortable lying face down. If this is your first massage, it is completely normal to feel a little unsure. I explain everything before the session starts and check in with you throughout.

Afterwards, give yourself permission to take the evening slowly. The relaxation tends to deepen over the hours following the treatment, so it is worth protecting that time if you can.

Frequently Asked Questions

You lie on a comfortable treatment table while I work through your whole body using long, flowing strokes, gentle kneading, and circular movements. I start with your back and shoulders, then move to the legs, arms, and neck. You are covered with a towel throughout and only the area being worked on is uncovered at any time.

It really is. The rhythmic, flowing movements activate your parasympathetic nervous system, which is your body's rest-and-recover mode. A lot of my clients tell me they feel calmer, sleep better, and carry less tension in the days following a session.

You undress to your level of comfort. Most people remove outer clothing but keep underwear on. I use professional draping so only the area being worked on is exposed. If you would prefer to keep more on, that is absolutely fine and I can adapt the treatment.

The treatment itself is 60 minutes. Allow a few extra minutes at the start for a quick chat about any areas you would like me to focus on, and a moment afterwards to get dressed and rehydrate. I always leave a 30-minute buffer between appointments, so you will never feel hurried out.
