Frequently asked questions about Harmony Hands massage therapy

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the questions I get asked most. If yours isn't here, just call or text me on 07403 286984.

Before Your Visit

Wear something comfortable and easy to change out of. For most massage treatments, I'll ask you to undress to your comfort level. I use professional draping throughout the session, so only the area being worked on is ever exposed. For Reiki and Indian head massage, you stay fully clothed.

When you arrive, I'll welcome you and we'll spend a few minutes chatting about your health, any areas of concern, and what you'd like from the treatment. I'll ask you to fill in a brief health declaration form. After that, I'll explain what the session involves and answer any questions before we begin. There's no pressure and no rush.

Arriving five minutes before your appointment time is ideal. This gives you a moment to settle in without feeling rushed. If it is your first visit, arriving ten minutes early allows time to complete the health declaration form.

It is best to avoid a heavy meal within two hours of your appointment. A light snack beforehand is fine. Lying face-down on a full stomach can be uncomfortable, and your body responds better to massage when it is not busy digesting a large meal. Drink plenty of water before and after your session.

Choosing a Treatment

It depends on what you're looking to address. Deep tissue massage is best for chronic tension, muscle knots, and specific problem areas. Swedish is ideal if you want full-body relaxation and stress relief. Hot stone and aromatherapy is a more indulgent, deeply relaxing treatment. If you're not sure, just give me a call and I'll help you choose the best option.

Swedish massage uses lighter, flowing strokes designed for overall relaxation and stress relief. Deep tissue massage uses slower, firmer pressure to target specific areas of chronic tension, adhesions, and muscle knots. If you have a particular problem area or persistent tightness, deep tissue is usually the better choice. If you want to unwind and relax your whole body, Swedish is ideal.

Yes. Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice that involves no physical manipulation or pressure. You lie fully clothed on the treatment table while I place my hands lightly on or just above specific areas of your body. There are no known harmful side effects. Reiki is safe for people of all ages and conditions, and I'll always have a chat about your health history before we start.

Vitamin B12 supports energy production, nerve function, red blood cell formation, and mood regulation. An injection delivers B12 directly into the muscle, bypassing the digestive system for faster, more reliable absorption. Most people tell me they notice improved energy, mental clarity, and mood within 24 to 48 hours. B12 injections can be particularly helpful for vegetarians, vegans, people over 50, and anyone experiencing persistent fatigue. Visit the B12 Injections page for full details.

Yes. You can book multiple treatments in a single visit if my schedule allows. For example, some clients combine a massage with a Reiki session, or add a B12 injection before or after their massage. Just get in touch and I'll arrange a combined booking for you.

Health and Safety

Certain massage treatments can be suitable during pregnancy, depending on how far along you are and your individual circumstances. If you're pregnant or think you might be, please let me know when you book so I can advise on the most appropriate treatment and any adjustments that may be needed.

I'll ask you to complete a health declaration form before your first treatment. This helps me understand any medical conditions, injuries, or medications that may affect your session. I'll have a chat with you about any concerns and may adapt the treatment accordingly. In some cases, I may ask you to check with your GP before we go ahead.

Yes, please always let me know about any allergies, particularly if you're booking an aromatherapy treatment where essential oils are used. I'll check your allergies before selecting any products and can adjust the treatment to avoid anything that might cause a reaction. If you have a severe allergy, please bring your medication with you as a precaution.
